Our service is designed for clients aged over 18 years. Services for young persons in Swindon include Stepping forward and connection (youth counselling) – see overleaf for contact details.
JOINT ASSESSMENT CLINIC
The Joint Assessment Clinic takes place each Monday (except bank holidays) between 9:00am & 10:30 am. There is no need to make an appointment and no need for a referral. It is a drop in clinic and an easy way to quickly access treatment. The assessment will help identify treatment needs and will take approximately 15 minutes. The clinic is jointly staffed by personnel from SWADS, Druglink and the Specialist Drug & Alcohol Service. Assessments are reviewed and allocated to the service that best suits the needs of the client.
GROUP PROGRAMME
Support Group
The support group meets daily, Monday to Friday, between 1:00pm and 2:45pm. The group welcomes anyone who has concerns about their alcohol or drug use. This service offers support with drinking and drug goals, safer drinking limits and harm minimisation. Clients do not have to be abstinent to attend this group.
Access Group
The access group meets daily, Monday to Friday between 1:00pm and 2:45pm. The group is designed for drug using clients including those who are serving court orders that include a treatment element. The group aims to prepare clients to best utilise prescribed medication, to reduce risks and minimise harm around drug use and to help them to begin to focus on creating a new life after drugs.
Treatment & Development Group
The Treatment & Development Group meets daily, Monday to Friday between 10:00am and 2:45pm. The group aims to support clients as they experience the sweeping changes that accompany a decision to give up alcohol or drugs. The T&D Group is the most intense phase of the programme and includes process work and skills modules to help clients to consolidate their new sense of identity and develop a ‘tool-kit’ of alternative coping strategies.
The Rehabilitation Group
The Rehabilitation Group meets daily, Monday to Friday between 10:00am and 11:45am. The focus of the group is to consolidate the client’s new, abstinent lifestyle and to build bridges into the community and a ‘life after SWADS’. The group has less rigid attendance requirements to accommodate new jobs or training opportunities.
COMMUNITY DETOX
For clients seeking to detoxify from the effects of alcohol, we offer to work with their GP to monitor and provide support whilst medication is being administered. Clients who wish to access this service must be engaged in ongoing or subsequent treatment with us through the Group Programme or one to one counselling.
ONE TO ONE COUNSELLING
One to one counselling is available to anyone who has been through the assessment process – the Joint Assessment Clinic followed by a SWADS Full Assessment. Counselling appointments are usually offered within 3 – 4 weeks of the full assessment. The one to one counselling service is also available for partners and carers of substance misusers (please telephone for more information).
AURICULAR ACUPUNCTURE CLINIC
Auricular acupuncture is a recognised therapy in the treatment of substance misuse. We offer acupuncture clinics weekday afternoons (excluding Wednesdays) open to clients and members of the public – no assessment required. Clinics start at 3:00pm and last approximately 40 minutes.
